Project 365 – Day 18

Once a month, my parents are kind enough to come down and watch LB while the Dude and I go on a lunch date.  This month, it was his choice, and he picked San Remo Bakery in Etobicoke.  It was awesome.  We split a bunch of food, and topped everything off with a pistachio cannoli.  Definitely going back.  #18of365

The Dude and I have been trying to cook more at home, and recently, it has been a lot of Indian food trials.  Today, it was Aloo Gobi, and I think it turned out pretty well.  #16of365

Back to work has meant one thing:  I can now eat at least one meal with 2 hands again.  Huzzah!  ( I love you LB!)  So today, I decided to celebrate with sushi, one of my top 3 favourite foods.  Nomnomnom indeed!  #7of365

Needed a little pick-me-up in the afternoon and chose this Red Velvet cookie from Tim Horton’s.  I love that our workplace has a Tim’s downstairs so that there’s no need to venture into the cold for a treat. #5of365

Babies have it really good.  They’re hungry, someone brings them food, they fall asleep, we just carry them around.  That’s the life.

Project 365 – Day 2

Headed back to work today for the first time since going on mat leave (well…except for a few side projects.  More on that in another post!)  It was strange going back on a Friday, but with the office relatively quiet, it was a nice way to ease back into it.  And getting a new tumbler to use for work helped a bit.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, everyone!  I wish everyone the best for the upcoming year.  See you on the other side!

The Countdown Begins…

It became official earlier this week:  I’m going back to work on January 2, 2015.  Has it already been a year?!  You might be asking.  No…but due to some circumstances, I’ll be going back early.

I suppose I should back up a bit and point out that here in Canada, we get to take up to a year off.  15 weeks for the mother at the beginning called maternity leave, and then the remaining 37 weeks can be taken by either parent.

So when LB passes her 10 month birthday, I’ll be jumping back into the maze to join the Rat Race again.  I have to admit, even though I missed work and exercising my brain in those ways, it made me a little sad when I realized I’d be going back.  Weird, huh?  But the reasons are good, I assure you.  First off, the Dude is planning to take some time to be with LB.  This is a good thing.  He works long hours, and is usually exhausted by the time he gets home, so this is a good way for them to bond and drive each other crazy.  The second reason is also simple: she got a spot in our preferred daycare.  Daycare spots in city-regulated Toronto centres are hard to get.  So when we got the email, we jumped on the chance, instead of trying to wait that extra month, because who knew how long it would be before another spot opened up?

And so it begins.  I have to admit that I was a bit bummed when I saw the acceptance date for LB, but the excitement of celebrating her first Christmas has softened the blow.  This is going to be a quick 2 months…
